WHAT GING-PAC CANDIDATES ARE DOING NOW!

CONGRESSMAN RANDY FORBES - On March 17th the House Judiciary Committee voted in favor of the “In God We Trust Resolution, (H.Con.Res. 13) originated by Congressman Randy Forbes (R-VA). The Forbes resolution, supported by 64 bipartisan congressmen, reaffirms “In God We Trust” as the national motto and encourages its public display. On the passage Congressman Forbes said, “Today, the House Judiciary Committee asked two simple questions: Does the United States still have the right to trust in God, and if so, should it? If the answer is “yes” to both questions, then the truths we declare to be “self evident” and the  rights we hold as “endowed by our Creator” are indeed transcendent and cannot be taken away by any government.

Since Randy Forbes came to the House in 2002 as a supported GING-PAC candidate, he has established himself as a leader. Randy formed the Congressional Prayer Caucus which has become a powerful force in the House of Representatives. Currently there are 55 members of the Prayer Caucus including Michele Bachmann, Jim Jordan, Mike Pence and other prominent Representatives.

Because of Randy Forbes, a church service was held in the rotunda of the Capitol Building in 2010. This was thc first time thc Capitol had bccn used as a church since 1868. For more than 100 years after the Capitol was built, church services were held there every Sunday. Did you know that? Thanks to Randy Forbes, “How Great Thou Art” was once again sung in the Rotunda.

CONGRESSMAN TRENT FRANKS - Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ) founded and now chairs the Congressional International Religious Freedom Caucus. With co-chair Heath Shuler (D-NC), he introduced a resolution calling for the U.S. to take action to protect religious freedom. The resolution condemns the intolerance that sanctioned recent high profile assassinations in Pakistan including that of the Minister of Minority Affairs, Shahbaz Bhatti, who was the only Christian in the government. Congressman Franks has assisted organizations such as the Religious Freedom Coalition in calling attention to the repression of Christians and other religious minorities in Islamic areas of the world.

CONGRESSMAN TODD AKIN - Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO), along with at least seven other GING-PAC supported candidates, co-sponsored H.R.973 to prevent the misuse of foreign law in United States federal courts. The bill states: “In any court created by or under Article III of the Constitution of the United States, no justice, judge, or other judicial official shall decide any issue in a case before that court in whole or in part on the authority of foreign law, except to the extent the Constitution or an Act of Congress requires the consideration of that foreign law.”

The use of foreign law including Islamic sharia law has become a matter of concern to me and other Christian leaders. Even Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor confirmed she had used foreign laws including UN resolutions to render her decisions. Recently judges in New Jersey and Florida have allowed the use of sharia law to determine the outcome of cases.  (See next  page)

CONGRESSMAN DOUG LAMBORN - The House of Representatives voted 228-192 on March l7th to prohibit direct federal funding to National Public Radio. The bill (HR 1076) sponsored by  GING-PAC-endorsed Colorado Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn, will also restrict local stations from paying NPR dues or purchasing programming with federal dollars. After the vote, Rep. Lamborn issued the following statement:  “This vote sends a strong message that Congress is serious about cutting spending.
With trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can sce, under Barack Obama, we must begin to cut all unnecessary spending. When the federal government gets its spending under control, the small businesses and entrepreneurs of our country will begin investing again with confidence. That, ultimately, will lead to the creation of private sector jobs Americans are looking for.”

NPR was formed in 1970 by then President Lyndon Baines Johnson as a means of combating what he saw as a generally conservative media. Since that time NPR has received many tens of millions of dollars from the government to champion an increasingly leftist agenda that was exposed in the recent firing of commentator Juan Williams and undercover videos showing the left leaning bias and anti-Israel nature of the staff.

CONGRESSMAN JIM JORDAN - Just a few years ago GING-PAC endorsed and funded Jim Jordan (R-OH) for his first run at the House from Ohio. In just three terms he has become a part of the leadership and now chairs the powerful Republican Study Conmiittee which is an organization for the most conservative Republican congressmen. Virtually all of the truly conservative bills, both fiscal and social, come from congressmen who are associated with the Republican Study Committee. For example, other memebers include Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, whom GING-PAC has also supported. Jordan was also named Pro-Life legislator of the Year by the United Conservatives of Ohio and won the Defender of Life award from Ohio Right to Life for his unwavering commitment to protecting the sanctity of human life.

SENATOR ROY BLUNT - Newly elected Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) announced he would head the Senate Values Action Team (VAT). Last year, then-Congressman Blunt stepped down from his leadership postion in the House to run for Senate as a fiscal and social conservative. After the departure of social conservative champion Senator Sam Brownback, there was no one to lead the very valuable Senate VAT. The VAT is an interface for social conservative organizations such as the Religious Freedom Coalition to organize for or against legislation. The House VAT, headed by Congressman Joe Pitts (R-PA), and the Senate VAT were key in passing the Partial Birth Abortion Ban and the Defense of Marriage Act, just to name two pieces of legislation.

ANOTHER SENATE SEAT IN MISSOURI? - Missouri Democrat Senator Claire McCaskill faces Senate ethics violation charges over the use of a private plane for political purposes and her relationship to a shell company that owns the plane. McCaskill is facing questions over Timesaver LLC, a Delaware-based corporation that was created in July 2006, during her Senate run against Republican incumbent Jim Talent.  She narrowly defeated Talent, with only 50% of the vote, to his 47%.  She and her husband are part owners of Timesaver, and had chartered 89 flights for her - and billed the flights to her Senate budget. 
As soon as her misuse of federal tax dollars was exposed, McCaskill agreed to pay more than $88,000 to the U.S. Treasury. She claims that only one of the 89 flights was political in nature, but she has declined to make any additional records public on her use of this plane.   

ABOUT BARACK OBAMA

During the 2008 election, candidate Obama’s committee officially raised $745 million dollars. After the election, at the end of 2008, his committee still had $15 million on hand. The Democrat Party and independent organizations such as MoveOn.org spent tens of millions more.  More than $500 million was raised on the lnternet to  elect Barack Obama,  and much of the revenue originated from addresses in foreign nations. 

In contrast, Senator John McCain spent a total of only $380 million, or about half as much as Obama and that included $88 million he took from the Federal Matching Funds. Obama refused federal funds because it would have limited by law the amount he could spend.

Government Is Not God – PAC is launching an aggressive membership and fund raising drive in April. Starting in May these campaign updates will be published monthly. May-June 2010 Campaign Update

WE LOST IN PENNSYLVANIA – THIS TIME

     PENNSYLVANIA: Both “inside the Beltway” and Tea Party activists supported Tim Burns in the special election to take the seat of  Congressman John Murtha who died following complications of a rather simple operation in February. The Republicans were so sure that Burns could win the seat that the GOP spent over $900,000 in the election. Several buses with volunteers, mostly staffers of Republican congressmen, went to the 12^th district the weekend before the vote to knock on doors for Burns. GING-PAC had endorsed Tim Burns in the May 18^th special election.

     No one anticipated the Democrat, Mark Critz, who had worked as an aid to John Murtha, would run a campaign just as conservative as the Republican. Critz campaigned as pro-life and pro-gun, said he would have voted against Obamacare and even went as far as to say he may not vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. Will he actually vote that way? Critz won with 53% of the vote. The GING-PAC candidate, Tim Burns had 45% in a district where registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by a margin of two to one. The same day the GOP primary was held and Burns won, meaning there will be a rematch between Critz and Burns in November.

     ARKANSAS: The GING-PAC candidate in Arkansas 1^st District, Princella Smith, lost in the primary election on May 18^th to restaurant owner Rick Crawford with 72% of the vote. Princella Smith was one of a large number of African-American Republican candidates running this year. GING-PAC has supported three African-American Republicans so far including her. This was not a loss for social conservatives as both Smith and Crawford are strong pro-life, pro-family candidates. GING-PAC will move the endorsement to Crawford for the general election.

     IDAHO: Our candidate for one of two House seats in Idaho, Vaughn Ward, lost the primary on May 25^th. Vaughn, a war hero who had also worked for the CIA fighting terrorism, had been recruited to run for the House by the Republican Party and was backed by many major social conservative organizations including ours. However, the winner, State Representative Raul Labrador has a perfect pro-life voting record in the Idaho Legislature. Raul supported Idaho’s constitutional amendment protecting marriage. He can beat the incumbent Democrat who won by less than 5,000 votes in 2008. Born in Puerto Rico, Labrador  is married and has five children.

    PRIMARY ELECTIONS IN GENERAL: The results above make it clear why Government Is Not God – PAC does not get involved in too many primary elections. While sometimes there is a clear difference, too often more than one candidate in a primary is a strong social conservative. As a result we tend not to get involved unless there are other factors such as Vaughn Ward’s powerful military record or Princella Smith’s  devoted volunteer work to the Mike Huckabee campaign. GING-PAC is involved in just a couple of the next round of elections on June 1^st and June 8^th.

     HAWAII: As I predicted in the last campaign update, two heavily funded Democrats knocked each other out, and allowed the election of Republican Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou in the congressional district Barack Obama grew up in. For the last twenty years the entire Hawaiian congressional delegation was Democrat. GING-PAC did not endorse Djou because he believes homosexuals should serve openly in the military and he had the support of several homosexual political action committees including the Log Cabin Republicans.

THE SENATE

     A GOP SENATE?:  Just about every week I sit at a luncheon literally across the table from Senator Jim Inhofe, R-OK, who in my opinion is one of the great conservative heroes of our day. He believes not only that the Republicans can pick up several seats in November, but that they could actually win control. The GOP would have to pick up nine seats to tie, and ten to win control of the Senate. That is a mighty big change for the Senate. But there is new hope.

     The front runner in Connecticut, Richard Blumenthal, the state's Democrat Attorney General, received five draft deferments, before joining the Marine Corps reserves in 1971. (Keep in mind how George W. Bush was ridiculed by the media for being a reserve officer during the Vietnam War.) Blumenthal was on active duty for just six months, all in the USA, but video clips have him stating: "We have learned something very important since the days that I served in Vietnam.” This was not the first time be claimed to be a Vietnam veteran. Since the revelation, he has dropped from a 24 point lead to a 3 point lead. While we will watch the race closely, GING-PAC will not support Republican Linda McMahon, a political unknown and an ex-wrestling executive, because of her social views. At her Internet site she says: “I am pro-choice; however, I oppose partial-birth abortion and federal funding of abortions unless the life of the mother is at stake.”

     CALIFORNIA: I have mentioned that I attended an event with former HP executive Carly Fiorina in her bid to win a Senate seat from left-wing nut Barbara Boxer in California. I was specifically at that event to talk to her about social issues and to see where she really stood on abortion and “gay” issues. She answered all my questions satisfactorily, but we did not endorse her because of some issues while she was heading HP.

     Since then Carly has been endorsed by the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, “in recognition of her firmly pro-life values.” Carly has also received a high profile endorsement by Gov. Sarah Palin. Carly Fiorina is the only Senate candidate in California to make it clear at her Internet site that she is pro-life, believes life begins at conception and says marriage is only for one man and one woman. In light of these developments and the fact that she is now number one in the polls for the GOP nomination, GING-PAC is now endorsing Carly Fiorina for Senate in California.

     ARIZONA: I have great admiration for the service Senator John McCain has given this nation as does former congressman J.D Hayworth, who is running against him in the Arizona primary. GING-PAC is supporting J.D. Hayworth, and the current immigration mess in Arizona makes it clear why Senator McCain needs to retire. It was Senator McCain who just a few years ago introduced legislation to give amnesty to millions of illegals who have invaded our nation. Now McCain is on TV virtually every day telling Arizona voters that Obama needs to secure the border and get tough with the illegals. This is the same Senator McCain who wrote the “campaign finance” reform law that tied the hands of conservative organizations and allowed all the leftwing nuts to give as much money as they wanted to Barack Obama to become our first socialist president. February, 2010 Campaign Update

JOHN MCCAIN IN 2010 AND 2012

REALLY BAD NEWS: Senator John McCain has every intention of a rematch with Barack Obama in 2012. He has kept his presidential committee intact and when asked about Gov. Sarah Palin running in 2012 he said, “I’m not dead yet.” Nothing could be worse for the conservative cause and the Republican Party in 2012 than to have Senator John McCain at the top of the ticket again. The Senator will be 74 years old this year and 76 when he runs in 2012. The oldest man ever elected to the presidency was Ronald Reagan; he was 70 years old the day we was sworn in as the 41st president of the United States. Am I saying McCain is too old to be president? No, but I do remember Senator Bob Dole running for president in his seventies against a vigorous, younger Bill Clinton. In 1996 just about anyone could have beat Bill Clinton -- except Bob Dole. I believe the error is about to be repeated with an aging Senator running against a vigorous young president. I believe just about any Republican can beat Barack Obama in 2012 -- except John McCain.

That brings us back to 2010 and the Senate race in Arizona. My good friend Congressman J.D. Hayworth has decided to run against John McCain in the Republican Primary. The race shows what kind of man John McCain really is. Before Hayworth even made the decision to run, John McCain began running hateful negative ads against him. He demanded that the radio station that employed Hayworth as a commentator should fire him. He complained to the FEC about Hayworth having a radio show even though he (Hayworth) was not an announced candidate.

I have seen the vindictiveness of John McCain before. I have watched him turn red-faced and explode on the subway that runs under the Capitol between the various office building. McCain has a vicious temper which has not been tempered with age. On the other hand in his announcement for his run for the Senate, J. D. Hayworth said that John McCain had served the nation with honor, but that it was time for him to go.

THE TALE OF THE TAPE: J. D. Hayworth is far more conservative than John McCain in every area, including social issues. The American Conservative Union shows Hayworth in the top 4% of elected officials, but McCain only in the top 32%. That is a huge difference. Then there is this: McCain sponsored the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Act. The law prohibited conservative non-profit groups from campaigning but allowed Barack Obama to raise three quarters of a billion dollars for his presidential campaign. Much of that law has now been found unconstitutional. McCain sponsored the McCain-Lieberman Climate Stewardship Act, which would have capped CO2 emissions at the 2000 level. He also sponsored the McCain-Kennedy comprehensive immigration bill in 2005. McCain also voted in favor of the $850-billion TARP bailout one month prior to the 2008 elections, sealing the fate of his presidential campaign.

GING-PAC will back the conservative in this race and that is J. D. Hayworth.

OTHER SENATE ACTION: I had not planned on GING-PAC being involved in many Senate races not only because of the expense, but also because for a while it seemed hopeless for conservatives to take back the Senate in 2010. There are eight Republican seats vacant because of retirements and Senators running for other offices, such as governor. Our favorite Senator, Sam Brownback, is running for governor of Kansas. GING-PAC is supporting Todd Tiahrt to replace Sam Brownback in the Senate. Todd has personally promised me that he will take over the Senate Values Action Team and actively promote social conservative legislation, as Sam Brownback has. Dr. James Dobson, among many others, has endorsed Todd Tiahrt for the Senate.

With eight Republicans leaving, things looked a little bleak, that is until several high ranking Democrats also decided to step down. The latest is Senator Evan Bayh in Indiana. Indiana is a red state that has in the past gone blue for the Bayh family. Both Evan and his dad were governors and Senators in Indiana. Without a Bayh in the race, the seat will probably go to a Republican. GING-PAC does not have a candidate in that race as yet. Bayh’s decision comes after Sen. Chris Dodd, D-CT, and Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-ND, announced their retirements in January. Democrats also have to defend the seats of Barack Obama in Illinois and Joe Biden in Delaware. There are also vulnerable Democrat seats in other states.

In Missouri GING-PAC is supporting Congressman Roy Blunt who stepped out of his leadership roll as House Whip to run for Senate. Roy’s son was a popular governor of Missouri who did not seek reelection, but the Blunt name has a very good reputation in Missouri. Congressman Blunt is very conservative and 100% pro-life.

In my position as chairman of the Religious Freedom Coalition I have worked numerous times on pro-life and other social conservative legislative issues with Congressman Blunt. This is a man who will help social conservatives once he is in the Senate. The most likely match-up in November appears to be pro-life Roy Blunt against pro-abortion Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan.

THE HOUSE

On the House side we have added another candidate to the endorsed list. Tim Walberg was a true activist for social conservative and pro-life issues who lost his Michigan seat last year to a far left leaning liberal who was swept in with Barack Obama. Tim Walberg has a good chance at getting this seat back. A National Research Inc. poll has Walberg leading Schauer 46-37, and 50-40 with "leaners." It appears that voters in the conservative leaning 7th district of Michigan are having buyer’s remorse after watching Mark Schauer vote consistently with Nancy Pelosi in the House.

GING-PAC will also step forward to defend great conservative spokesmen who will be under attack by wealthy far left organizations such as Moveon-org this year. These include Michele Bachmann in Minnesota, Dr. Paul Broun in Georgia, Trent Franks in Arizona and Todd Akin in Missouri. While we want to get more conservative congressmen elected, we have to watch our back and make sure that some of the conservative workhorses we have in the House keep their seats.

PRESIDENT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA

It is January, 2009 and President Barrack Hussein Obama has been sworn in as president of the United States. For days Islamic extremists have been dancing in the streets in Arab capitals. Partial birth abortion is cleared for federal funding and same sex marriage is declared legal in every state. Meanwhile a new FCC rule takes all conservative and Christian talk shows off the air. THE NEW YORK TIMES IS IN THE GUTTER

How far in the tank can a daily newspaper be for a political candidate? In his book, Barack Hussein Obama admits to using cocaine. The New York Times has never attempted to investigate his level of drug addiction even though the usage was primarily in New York City. The Times could use its vast city network of reporters to find the drug dealers and those who used cocaine but they have not bothered. BUT ... The New York Times ran a lengthy story on Cindy McCain alleging that she had a miscarriage and that at one time had a problem with prescription drugs. The story showed the world exactly how sleazy the New York Times has become. To ignore the admitted cocaine habit of Barack Hussein Obama while publishing a major story about a minor prescription drug problem of Cindy McCain’s that occurred decades ago, is a disgusting level of journalism that the National Enquirer would not lower itself to.

While the individual candidates are great, there is an overall strategy as well. Note that we have supported more candidates in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia than anywhere else. That is because these are battleground states in the presidential election and the better conservative candidates do in these congressional districts the better the McCain / Palin ticket will do. On the Senate side we could not do that as readily because there were not any Senate seats in battleground states that we could really get involved in.

AND: Please don’t write to me that McCain is an establishment candidate that does not deserve our support. I am not a McCain fan, but we can live with him as president. On the other hand Barack Hussien Obama will bring real change in the form of a leftist thugery. If he is elected I fully expect him to be more like a Hugo Chavez than anyone else. The man is a dangerous leftist with extremist ties, and he makes Hillary Clinton look like a conservative! If he is allowed to appoint two or three Supreme Court justices, the nation will be in ruins. We need to stop him before or the damage he does the nation may be irreparable.

September, 2008 - Campaign Update

A TRUE DO NOTHING CONGRESS

For the last 18 months the majority of Americans have blamed the Republicans for the mess in Congress. As of August 1st most Americans believed the Republicans were in charge of Congress. But thanks to radical left House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that has changed. When she announced the she and she alone would block a vote on offshore drilling to “save the planet” Americans started to wake up to the fact that Republicans were not in charge regardless of a Republican being in the White House. Just two months ago generic polls showed the Republicans double digits behind Democrats. The latest Gallup Poll shows Republicans 5 points up! What a turn around and it has mostly to do with oil.

Americans are fed up with the Obama - Democrat plan for energy which is NO to drilling, NO to coal mining and NO to nuclear. The liberals promoted “wind power,” but now oppose building power lines from the areas with a lot of wind to the big cities, saying that they are “bad for the environment.” The liberal solution is to raise the tax on energy, so people will use less of it.

Just after Congress returned from their summer break, the day after Labor Day, I had lunch with Congressman Adam Putnam. He is Chairman of the House Republican Conference and third in line in the House Republican leadership. The Conference Chairman is charged with articulating his party's message, and with building the agenda for Republicans in the House. He was elected to lead the Republican Conference by his fellow congressmen. This man knows what is going on.

Congressman Putnam told me that leftist Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi had scheduled just 15 work days for the rest of year. That is 15 total works days between Labor Day and the New Year. By the time you get this Campaign Update half of those will be over! She scheduled so few days despite the fact that most of the government's funding bills, which are already months late, need to be passed. Even bills to fund the military have not been passed. She has finally promised a bill on “offshore drilling” but it is a joke. All drilling within 50 miles of the shore will still be banned. That is where 90% of the oil is and she is aware of that.

The candidates we are supporting are looking better every day to the electorate. Seats the Democrats thought they were sure of winning are moving back to conservatives.

We are now very confident that our candidate in Florida’s 22nd district will become the first black Republican in Congress since J.C. Watts of Oklahoma resigned to go back to private business. Lt. Col. Alan West retired from the military in 2004, and was a civilian advisory to the Afghan Army until 2007. In his Army career, Col. West has been honored many times.

Lt. Col. West received a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals (one with Valor), and a Valorous Unit Award. He received his valor award as a Captain in Desert Shield/Storm.

As with all the candidates GING-PAC supports, I have spent one-on-one time with Lt. Col. West and I can assure you that he is a pro-life social conservative. Further north we have endorsed Bob Straniere who is running for the House in New York's 13th congressional district. I talked at length with him and I asked him directly about his pro-life credentials. He immediately told me he had run for state office on the Pro-Life Party ticket and had the endorsements of just about every pro-life organization and leader in New York. He is also endorsed by my good friend Duane Motley, who heads New York’s Family Research Foundation.

My research shows that Bob Straniere is one of the good guys, a real social conservative leader who we need on Capitol Hill. Straniere is running for the seat of Congressman Vito Fossella who is "retiring." Fossella is yet another Republican figure who was caught up in the scandal days of former Speaker Dennis Hastert. If elected, Bob Straniere will be the only Republican congressman from New York City. This is a must win seat because he would be “the” social conservative from New York City.

Bob Straniere has an extensive background in American government and politics, serving as a member of the New York State Assembly for 24 years representing the south shore of Staten Island. Bob served for 10 years (1995-2004) as the Floor Leader for the Assembly Republican Conference and as the Assistant Minority Leader. THE SENATE

Just a few days before mailing this Campaign Update, I met once again with our Senate candidate in Colorado, former Congressman Bob Schaffer who continues to do well in the polls. This race is extremely important because it could help to determine the outcome of the presidential race. Colorado is a key “battle ground” and that is why the Democrats chose Denver for their Greek Temple crowning of Barack Obama as king of all that is far fetched and meaningless.

This Colorado Senate seat has been Republican for some time; however, hundreds of thousands of liberal Democrats have fled the high taxes of California and moved to Colorado. Now they want to make Colorado just like the state they fled. Republican Wayne Allard has retired, making this an open seat. This is a must win. THE PRESIDENCY

MCCAIN AND OBAMA TAKE BREAK FOR 9-11 - The John McCain and Barack Obama campaigns set aside most of their campaigns on the seventh anniversary of the Jihad attack against the United States. The liberal media blitz against Gov. Sarah Palin did not pause . Liberals are accusing her of trying to ban books at a library (untrue); teach creationism in Alaskan public schools (untrue), and posing in a bikini with an assault rifle (also untrue despite the fact that CNN reported it). However, I did sort of like the cartoon of the Moose saying, "Be afraid, be very afraid.
I was driving past the Pentagon on 9-11 just as flight 77 hit. My remembrance of that day was published a year later. Click here to read my personal account of 9-11.

THE PALIN FACTOR - Polls of Europeans, particularly the British, had Barack Obama the three to one favorite over John McCain; that was before Sarah Palin entered the picture and reminded the Brits of their beloved first ever female prime minister, Margaret Thacher. The tone of the British press has changed somewhat as can be seen from a recent article in the Daily Mail titled, A pistol-packin' Looby Loo: the Left's worst nightmare.

THE CONGRESS

JUST 15 DAYS TO LEGISLATE? - This week I had lunch with Congressman Adam Putnam. As Chairman of the House Republican Conference, Putnam is third in line in the House Republican leadership. The Conference Chairman is charged with articulating his party's message, and with building the agenda for Republicans in the House. He was elected to lead the Republican Conference by his fellow congressmen.


Congressman Putnam told me that leftist Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi had scheduled only 15 work days for the rest of year for the House. Of those days, only 14 are before the election and there is just one day of work after the election. She scheduled so few days despite the fact that most of the government's funding bills, which are already months late, need to be passed. Even bills to fund the military have not been passed. Meanwhile, Rep. Putnam said he does expect Pelosi to file dozens of bills to name post office buildings. Boy that sounds important!

SENATOR REID HAS PLANS? - Not much to report in the Senate at all. The Majority Leader of the Senate, Harry Reid, is not going to advance any legislation without the permission of Comrad Obama who is on the campaign trail and falling further behind the McCain/Palin ticket every day. Obama was going to showcase himself on the Senate floor with "education bills" but now does not have the time to come to Washington.

SENATOR BIDEN IN TROUBLE WITH BISHOPS - Two prominent U.S. Catholic bishops this week said that Democratic vice presidential nominee, Senator Joe Biden contradicted church teaching. He said on a TV interview that determining when human life begins is a "personal and private" matter of religious faith not to be imposed on others. Read more. He is just one of many pro-abortion Catholics such as Nancy Pelosi in the Democrat Party.

ST. PAUL, Minn.--

Before Ronald Reagan, Republican presidential campaigns were about two things: defense and lower taxes. The only grass roots workers the Grand Old Party had were military veterans. Almost all the funding for campaign advertising came from big American corporations, not individuals.

Because the party was about only defense and taxes, it was virtually impossible for it to control either the House or the Senate, so both remained for decades in Democratic hands. With enough national advertising paid for by Wall Street, the Republicans occasionally won the White House.

Then came Reagan with a coalition that included evangelicals and blue-collar pro-life Catholics. The Republican Party grew and grew, winning everything from judgeships in Texas and mayoral elections in Alabama to most governorships. Soon the GOP, with the help of the evangelicals and the pro-lifers, controlled almost two-thirds of all elected offices in the United States.

Unfortunately, control of Capitol Hill gave the GOP old guard and the K Street lobbyists a green light for corruption. After dumping reformer Newt Gingrich as House speaker, they installed one of their own, Dennis Hastert. He looked away from financial scandals and ignored sexual impropriety--even attempts at homosexual seduction of pages. In 2006, sex and financial scandals made a bleak election year even bleaker for the Republicans, and they lost control of both House and Senate.

It didn't help that President George W. Bush was distracted by a war going badly due to the poor advice of two Nixon-era Republicans--Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. Meanwhile, the big corporate types wanted evangelicals out of the party because their country-club cronies disdained the new emphasis on family values.

With the party teetering near the edge, Mitt Romney came on the national stage with his scorched-earth brand of politics. During the 2007-08 primary season, he attacked fellow Republican candidates with campaign mudslinging and dirty tricks, including the use of paid surrogates, at a level never seen before. Virtually every segment of the party was injured, and evangelicals and pro-lifers prepared to sit out the entire election year.

The Republican Party, already in steep decline, was left with a candidate, John McCain, so damaged by Romney that he was unable to raise funds to defend himself against the far-left moveon.org machine candidate, Barack Obama.

Then Gov. Sarah Palin entered the picture.

In August, the McCain campaign raised $16 million on the Internet. More than half came on a single day--the day McCain introduced Palin as his VP choice.

Palin brings in the support of hundreds of thousands of small donors and millions of campaign workers. She is a social conservative and a populist who does not tolerate corruption. Wall Street doesn't like her because she forced Big Oil to pay higher royalties for Alaskan oil, but people love her. In Alaska she has 80 percent approval.

The number of volunteers at McCain's regional offices has doubled since the announcement. Republican phone-bank workers who had not been heard from in years have showed up to help. The mood at the convention here changed from one of "we have to support this guy" to "we've got a winning team to fight for."

On the other side of the political spectrum, the Far Left is afraid of Palin because she is just like the average working mom in America. Her husband is a blue-collar oil worker, and her teenage kids get into trouble just like other moms' kids. She has one son in the Army headed to Iraq and a teen daughter who got pregnant before marriage. Those two kids alone bring millions of voters to the McCain-Palin camp.

Palin can also help the McCain ticket in a way nether Mike Huckabee nor Fred Thompson could: Romney and his surrogates had no opportunity to spend millions of dollars tarnishing her reputation during the primaries as he did theirs. The left-leaning media may try to do that job, but, again, Palin is too much the American mother to bash without a backlash.

With Palin the Republicans have a chance to stay in the White House for another four years, something that otherwise would be unthinkable with a president of the same party with only a 30 percent approval rating. Thus, the political party that has the image of the "white male party" may well be saved in 2008 by a female governor.

To boot, Palin can shoot a gun more accurately than Vice President Dick Cheney, or most other male members of the GOP.

McCain Picks Palin - Obama Picks Ego

MCCAIN WAY OUTSIDE THE BOX-Several weeks ago I discounted Gov. Sarah Palin as Senator McCain's pick for at my PAC site. Although she is very pro-life and a social conservative I had dismissed her for what I thought were some very petty acts while in office. Also, I just didn't think John McCain could think this far out of the box and that he would pick, like Barack Obama did, a fellow Senator. OBAMA CONTINUES TO DISPLAY EGO - I believe filling a stadium with 84,000 cheering fans, reminiscent of a Nazi rally in the 1930's, was a huge mistake for Senator Barack Obama. He continues to play the roll of rock star, but the luster is wearing off as voters start to look past the "Wow, a black guy for president!" feeling and start looking at what he actually believes. For example, Barack Obama is so extreme on abortion that in the Illinois legislature he voted to allow doctors to kill. August, 2008 - Campaign Update

MCCAIN CALLS FOR PRO-LIFE PRESIDENCY- At the forum held at Saddleback Church, best selling Christian author Pastor Rick Warren asked Senator John McCain at what point a baby is entitled to human rights. John McCain answered: "At the moment of conception. I have a 25- year pro-life record in the Congress, in the Senate. And as president of the United States, I will be a pro-life president. And this presidency will have pro-life policies. That's my commitment. That's my commitment to you."

$28,500 TO GLIMPSE "THE ONE" - Last Sunday Barack Obama collected $7.8 million at three fundraisers in San Francisco. At one event for VIPs he charged $28,500 per person to get a glimpse of him. Although I have no proof, I am told by sources that the men's and women's rest room signs at these events were changed to "Person Rest Stations." Read more

PELOSI'S DIVINE REVELATION - According to Nancy Pelosi, God has given her a revelation that He has "blessed" America with Barack Obama . Not only does Pelosi quote Scripture that does not exist, now she has word directly from God that he has chosen Barack Obama to be our leader. She also claims to be a Catholic who is pro-abortion and thinks men who practice anal sex with each other should receive marriage licenses. Read more

July- August, 2008 - Campaign Update

A PARTY GONE MAD

The Washington Times is supposed to be “our” newspaper, the only true pro-Republican conservative newspaper in the nation. However, during the primary the paper just seemed to go bonkers over Mitt Romney. Apparently the "latter day" roots of the Washington Times have taken it to new depths in attacking "white" evangelicals. Few know that the newspaper was founded by cult leader Rev. Sun Myung Moon who served time in a federal pen for tax evasion during the Reagan years. His Unification Church requires members to sign all their earthly belongings over to it and the result is great wealth, the kind of wealth that can found newspapers. Moon portrays himself as the last of the “latter day” prophets. This could explain the vehemence against evangelicals as the Washington Times shamelessly promotes Mitt Romney, a member of another religion with a "latter day" prophet, as their choice first for president and now for McCain’s VP.

The Sunday, August 3, 2008 editorial in the Times bitterly labeled "white evangelicals” as bigots for trying to block Mitt Romney as McCain’s VP choice. This despite the fact that during the primary election about one-third of evangelicals voted for Romney, and only about forty percent for evangelical leader Mike Huckabee. This few points of advantage for Huckabee over Romney provided the proof for the Washington Times editorial staff that "white evangelicals” are bigots. On the other hand, 93% of Mormons having voted for Mitt Romney showed no bias at all.

The real bigots sit on the editorial board of the Washington Times. They simply dislike evangelicals and conservative Catholics, while favoring the economic conservative wing of the Republican Party, the wing exemplified by American Tax Reforms' Grover Norquist who is married to a Muslim and also maintains a vile hatred of evangelicals. For Norquist, a dollar is a dollar regardless of how much blood is on it, and that is how the big international companies are run today; there is no room for morals.

The bigotry in the conservative establishment against evangelicals is not confined to the editorial board of the Washington Times. Big businesses that support Republican candidates want nothing to do with the “pro-life nuts,” which translates to evangelicals and conservative Catholics. How can the Republican Party survive, when its own leadership and conservative publications such as the Washington Times direct hatred against social conservatives who represent a sizable portion of the base of the party? Who do they think will replace the evangelicals? The followers of Osama bin Laden or perhaps the animal rights nuts who recently tried to murder the families of scientists in California? Maybe homosexual activists or open boarder advocates?

The reality: the constant attacks on evangelicals by the Washington Times and conservative columnists such as Bob Novak show a political party in its suicidal death throes.

The Times editorial board and the economic conservative wing of the Republican Party seem to desperately want the return of Richard Nixon from the grave along with his drunken profane rants, as the example the party should follow. The party as Nixon knew it might win an election for dog catcher in Las Vegas now, but nothing on a national scale. Without a coalition that includes evangelical Christians, the GOP is RIP.

THE SENATE

The primary is over in Oklahoma and Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) won big. His likely opponent, state senator Andrew Rice was supposed to win big as well, but something went wrong. Rice won with 60% of the vote after spending nearly a million dollars, but a “perennial candidate” who spent less than $5,000 got the other 40% of the vote. This is good news for Senator Inhofe who is our candidate! Senator Inhofe is the man who took on Al Gore’s entire “green agenda,” and who has fought Senator Barbara Boxer tooth and nail as she has tried to ram though legislation that would cripple the middle class of this nation. Former congressman Bob Schaffer is now doing very well in the polls in Colorado, with John McCain moving up as well. When I last wrote about Schaffer, Barack Obama was leading in Colorado by several points -- but that has changed along with the price of gas. There are huge shale oil deposits in Colorado that the Democrat Congress has put off limits for drilling. Thousands of jobs and millions in tax revenue is being denied Colorado by the anti-energy Democrats. This is helping both Bob Schaffer and John McCain in Colorado. As of August 1st, McCain led Obama by several points in Colorado. As we raise more funds, we can send Bob Schaffer several thousand dollars more because our federal limit has not been reached as yet with him..

THE HOUSE

Just three days before the filing date for the primary, Woody Jenkins dropped out of the Louisiana 6th primary after losing by only a few votes the special election to replace Richard Baker. Jenkins had become a “national” candidate, and had the far left gunning for him because of his outspoken social conservative views. Also, he had “upset the cart” by forcing Louisiana to make it harder for dead people to vote, after voter fraud caused him to lose his Senate race six years ago. GING-PAC was heavily invested in Jenkins.

Our likely candidate is now Dr. Bill Cassidy. A state Senator, he had turned down requests to run in the special election to replace Baker, who had held the seat for three decades. After Jenkins withdrew, Dr. Cassidy decided to enter the race to avoid losing the seat for decades to come. He is a social conservative committed to the principles of free enterprise, limited government, lower taxes, and the right to bear arms. We are taking a close look at his campaign and may support him.

Several of our other candidates are doing very well including Melissa Hart in Pennsylvania and Michele Bachmann in Minnesota. There are several other good social conservative candidates for the House we are looking at closely and will begin issuing checks to approved candidates in September. Right now GING-PAC is conserving and raising cash to use just before the general election in the most crucial races.

THE PRESIDENCY

I just love to watch ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and MSNBC political news. All the panels have only one subject: “Why isn’t Barack Obama ten points ahead of McCain?” The media refers to itself as the “intelligencia” and believes that of course “Obama should win” because of the “bungling” of George W. Bush. McCain is virtually never mentioned. One newscaster said, “The election is about Obama,” and that I agree with. It is because the election is about Obama’s radical views and his association with radicals and racists that he will lose. The Democrats may have picked the only candidate that can’t beat John McCain.

McCain May Pick Woman with Baggage as VP

This morning the Washington Times reported that John McCain may pick Carla Fiorina, the former CEO of HP who was fired for nearly running the company into the ground. There are only two possibilities here: The story was a plant from the Obama campaign or there was a gas leak in the Washington Times building that has caused mental confusion of the editorial staff.

Meanwhile, Rasmussen reports that former Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR) has the highest favorability ratings of any known vice presidential posibility. Oddly he is the one never mentioned. The Washington Times and Fox News have been shamelessly promoting Mitt Romney who has the lowest approval favorability rating among voters in recent polls.

McCain Makes His Pitch to Conservatives

(March 7, 2008 – New Orleans, LA) Shortly after obtaining enough delegates to claim the 2008 Republican nomination for the presidency, John McCain spoke at the luncheon for a premier conservative group, the Council on National Policy (CNP). He had about 40 minutes to win over both economic and social conservatives who had huge differences with him on policy, as defined by his voting record in the Senate and public pronouncements. Among these is his willingness to interfere with freedom of speech (McCain-Feingold) and also to give amnesty to millions of illegals in the United States. McCain decided to show he could take on the critics by speaking for only ten minutes and opening the balance of his time to questions. This was a mistake on his part. While he departed the stage thinking he did well, those in attendance including myself felt otherwise. On immigration he said he wanted to secure the border, but that is not what his voting record indicates is his true policy. On issues from abortion to basic economic policy he told those present to look at his record, which, unfortunately for him, they have done.

Then he was asked about his relationship with God. The question was asked in such a manner that it would have allowed a man of faith to preach a message that would have won any atheist in the crowd to Christ. Instead of answering with a personal message of faith, he actually gave the faith testimony of another man. While McCain himself surely thought the answer was a knockout punch for the crowd, it actually left those of faith wondering exactly what his point was.

Rather than talking of his own faith he told of a time while he was a prisoner in North Viet Nam, when a guard loosened the ropes that bound him during the guard’s shift. The guard then retied the bonds before departing. He said he wondered why the guard had shown him kindness. At Christmas time that year the guard silently drew a cross in the dirt in front of McCain’s cell, smiled and then erased the cross so that other guards would not see it. The message ended at that point, with no statement as to how this affected him personally or in his relationship with the Lord. This left the listeners, all with a sort of “and then” look on their faces, waiting for a conclusion that just never came. The McCain campaign had actually made a Christmas commercial using the same theme in December of 2007.

Other than a few conservative Jews, the CNP membership is for the most part evangelicals and conservative Catholics who are also economic conservatives. In other words, the group is overwhelmingly made up of men and women of faith. Some members of CNP such as myself, are the leaders of social conservative organizations. In conversations after the event most agreed that is was impossible to tell from John McCain’s remarks if he indeed had a personal relationship with the Lord. Of course, that does not mean that he does not. It does mean that he has great difficulty in publically acknowledging a relationship with the Lord.

During his remarks John McCain talked about a time when he was campaigning with George W. Bush in 2000, when they were on a bus together and people lined the streets in the rain jumping up and down with enthusiasm. He said, “We have to restore that kind of enthusiasm in our party.” The problem is that he said nothing during the luncheon speech that would generate that kind of enthusiasm amongst conservatives. His presentation consisted of the same canned remarks he made in 2000 that lost him the nomination to George W. Bush. His rhetoric about eliminating earmarks while lowering taxes and keeping America strong is the solid 1980’s and 1990’s rhetoric that kept the GOP in power. Unfortunately for John McCain, it is no longer the 20^th century and there are new problems facing this nation, such as the transfer of wealth to Islamic nation that has left the dollar at about 60% of the value of the Euro. Debt has become a burdensome part of the federal budget as it has for the average American. Oil was at $106 a barrel the day McCain spoke to the group and he did not mention it as an addressable problem.

His address to the CNP offered no assurances to social conservatives that would cause them to give his campaign the same enthusiastic support as evangelicals gave Mike Huckabee; and I put myself forth as an example. I personally raised about $70,000 for Mike Huckabee’s campaign. The political action committee I head also made independent expenditures for advertising and direct marketing of over $60,000 on behalf of Mike Huckabee during the primary. I flew to New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida to help the Huckabee campaigns in those states. I flew to Texas the day I knew Mike would be forced to drop out of the race to stand by his side as did many of his closest supporters. No one dumped Mike Huckabee, not even at the bitter end. None of that kind of support has translated to John McCain and probably will not. After the Huckabee withdrawal, Evangelicals, mad at their leaders for supporting Mormon Mitt Romney and marginal Catholic Rudy Giuliani, packed up their bags and went home rather than to the McCain tent.

Can McCain win the activists back and get evangelicals to jump up and down in the rain for him? That is possible, but it will take more than “… look at my record” and “… he drew a cross in the dirt” to convince social conservatives to do more than hold their nose and vote for him in November, knowing Clinton and Obama are worse alternatives. Rather than being enthusiastic for McCain, most activists see him as the lesser of two evils to choose from in November.
