THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE 

OBAMA CHAMPIONS ISLAM YET FAVORS GAYS – Other than Muslims and Jews,  no groups could be further at odds than Muslims and homosexuals. In both Saudi Arabia and Iran homosexuals have in recent times been publicly hung. In sections of London where Sharia law is enforced signs are posted warning homosexuals to stay out or face “justice.” The Obama Administration, with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the fore, wants to wage a international diplomatic war for homosexual “rights.”

On December 6^th at a conference in Geneva, Switzerland attended by diplomats from all over the world including Arab nations, Secretary Clinton compared the struggle for “gay equality” to difficult passages toward women’s rights and racial equality. She said that a nation’s cultural or religious “traditions” are not an excuse for discrimination against homosexuals. “Gay rights are human rights, and human rights are gay rights,” she said.

“It should never be a crime to be gay,” Clinton declared and concluded that, “Gay people are born into and belong to every society in the world.”

At the same moment in Washington, DC President Barack Obama was directing U.S. agencies working abroad, including the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development, to use foreign aid to assist gays and lesbians who are facing human rights violations. He ordered U.S. agencies to “protect” vulnerable gay and lesbian refugees and asylum seekers. In a statement issued with the memorandum Obama said, “The struggle to end discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons is a global challenge, and one that is central to the United States’ commitment to promoting human rights.”

In effect President Obama ordered U.S. agencies to import homosexuals from all over the world who are threatened. Thus anyone walking into an embassy anywhere in the world where homosexual activities including “gay marriage” are illegal claiming to be gay will be put at the front of the line to immigrate to the United States. How would they prove their “gayness?”

Oddly, President Obama had already put Muslim refugees at the front of the line. It is well known in the Christian communities in Muslim nations that they will not even be considered for immigrant status to the United States, even if they already have relatives here. The Obama Administration is importing hundreds of thousands of Muslim “refugees” and using Nashville and Atlanta to resettle them as a means of busting the Bible belt which is a traditional foe of the Democrat party. Muslim refugees and homosexuals now have special status to immigrate to the United States. This is an Obama legacy that must be ended. This nation needs immigrants that are well educated, hard working and of child bearing age.

THE SENATE

WISCONSIN – In 2008, when long time ultra-liberal Senator Russ Feingold was defeated,  the headline at liberal Salon.com was  “Progressive hero Feingold defeated by wide margin:  Tea Party-backed businessman Ron Johnson will be the next senator from Wisconsin.” Six years earlier, GING-PAC backed Congressman Mark Neumann had come within two points of defeating Feingold. Neumann was a strong social conservative, a businessman who had won two terms in the House, where he backed the partial-birth abortion ban and other pro-life legislation. Neumann was constantly ridiculed by the liberal press in Wisconsin while he was in office.

Wisconsin now has one conservative Senator, Ron Johnson, whose vote in the Senate is countered on virtually every issue by Democrat Senator Herb Kohl. Senator Kohl, is a wealthy liberal who owns the Milwaukee Bucks NBA basketball team. He is retiring on his vast wealth,  which he pretends to hate in speeches on the floor of the Senate.

The retirement of Kohl is an opportunity for a second true conservative, a social conservative, to join Ron Johnson in representing the state of Wisconsin.  This state has for decades been represented by people who do not share the values of their constituents.

South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint, a Tea Party stalwart, has endorsed Mark Neumann in the Wisconsin Senate Republican primary race. Mark Neumann will face former Governor Tommy Thompson and State Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald. In his endorsement DeMint said, “Mark Neumann is a proven, conservative leader and he’s running against Tommy Thompson, a Republican who helped President Obama pass his healthcare takeover.” Regardless of what the media may report, Thompson is no conservative.

There is no doubt in my mind that Mark Neumann will win the GOP primary, and also that Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin, the lesbian activist who pushes the gay agenda and big government policies in the House of Representatives, will win the Democrat primary.

Baldwin is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, a group of socialists who relentlessly work to undermine the free enterprise system and to create a huge welfare state. Not able to damage the social fabric of the nation enough in the House, Baldwin wants to do more damage to our nation as a U.S. Senator, by among other things repealing of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).  Her main cause is homosexuality.
The choice for the people of Wisconsin could not be more clear — Neumann, a pro-life family man, versus lesbian activist Baldwin. GING-PAC has joined Senator DeMint in endorsing Mark Neumann for the open Senate seat in Wisconsin.

A final note: Barack Obama has promised to spend one billion dollars in his efforts to win reelection. This billion dollars does not even include the use of Air Force One to travel the nation making class warfare speeches as he has been doing already in swing states for the past several months. He will spend millions of dollars in tax payers’ dolllars as well.

March, 2009 - Campaign Update

YES WE CAN WIN THE 20TH IN NEW YORK

Only a few days remain until the very important special election in the 20th District of New York, to be held March 31st. This race is a must-win for Republicans because the district, which includes Schenectady, is a Republican stronghold even though their last representative was a Democrat. The Democrat, Kirsten Gillibrand, was conservative and a member of the NRA.

This is also an opportunity to have a real conservative represent the district.

The special election for Gillibrand’s seat is being held because of her appointment by Governor Paterson to fill the recently vacated Senate seat of Hillary Clinton.

The Republican candidate, Jim Tedisco, is a true conservative who is currently the Minority Leader of the NY Assembly. He has consistently fought for smaller government and lower taxes, and is also a reliable social conservative, having received a 100% rating from the New York Right to Life Committee. Tedisco is well known and well liked and has been running comfortably ahead of his Democrat opponent, Scott Murphy. A Siena Research Institute Poll the last week of February had Tedisco winning in every age demographic, even 18 to 34 year olds, and he even has a 14 point lead among Independents!

Not much is known about the social or political views of the Democrat Murphy, who is a venture capital manager. Never having held public office, he has no voting record, nor does he address any social issues on his website.

The outcome of this race should not be taken for granted, however. Whatever Scott Murphy may lack in the way of experience or name recognition, he does have powerful supporters, such as the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. He also has the wealth of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) behind him.

The DCCC seems to be conducting an almost entirely negative campaign. At the DCCC website devoted to Murphy, there were no links to news stories about him when I checked, and only a brief biographical sketch. There are, however, links to no less than 33 negative articles and stories about his opponent Jim Tedisco. There is also a slick, negative campaign clip that has run on television all over the state.

Democrats are somewhat anxious about this race, as it might be interpreted as a referendum on Obama’s economic policies, since Murphy is a strong supporter of Obama’s wild spending. Because of this it will be a very important victory for us. GING-PAC has sent funds to the Tedisco campaign. We will send additional funds if they become available.

OBAMA'S STEM CELL LIE- There is a huge difference between adult stem cells and embryonic stem cells. Adult stem cell research has provided real cures for real illnesses. I have met and shaken hands with a man who had all his Parkinson's disease symptoms relieved by adult stem cell treatment. On the other hand, embryonic stem cells have provided no cures and have actually caused injuries. The embryonic stem cell "science" is obsolete and there is just nothing there that will ever help anyone.

Why then did President Obama begin taxpayer funding of this obsolete science? He claimed he did it to cure five illnesses he listed, but it was adult stem cells that have yielded the cures in all five areas. Is Obama just flat out ignorant on the subject, OR is he satisfying the pro-death lobby in the Democrat party that wants to play with embryos to prove they are just cells and not real people? If that is the case perhaps Obama should invite a snowflake baby to the White House. Snowflake babies are adopted children who have developed from frozen embryos in suspended animation, the suspended animation that Obama wants to interrupt to kill them.

How does Obama’s entire life view differ from say, Ronald Reagan’s?

An American whose job it was to take notes at a summit meeting between President Ronald Reagan and Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev, recalled an attempt by our President to convert the Soviet leader from atheism. Rudolf Perina said, "Reagan thought he could convert Gorbachev, or make him see the light." The President used a story about how his own son was an atheist and how he would like to convert him to a view of faith.

Ronald Reagan was not only a believer, he was pro-life to the point that he actually wrote a pro-life book, titled Abortion & the Conscience of the Nation. We have come a long way from a president who was openly pro-life to one willing to destroy life for no rational reason at all. Even if he had moral grounds to order extermination of embryos, there is just no sound science to justify it at all. Even atheists should be against the waste of tax dollars.

Are we ready to get rid of this pro-death president who will do anything to satisfy the abortion industry and the mad scientists who want to experiment on human life? The answer is no. The Republican Party is a rudderless ship with no captain. No one can figure out who is in charge or in what direction the party is going.

Now is the opportunity for social conservatives to step forward and take command. For two long we have sat in the back of the bus while Wall Street drove us to Hell. We need to put Wall Street in the back of the GOP bus and we need to sit at the wheel, and that can only happen when our candidates win elections. To win we need funds.

Right now we are involved in the special election in New York’s 20th District and have the chance to bring a pro-life congressman to Washington. There are going to be other special elections, this year and next. But, just about all of our funds have been exhausted during the hard fought 2008 election cycle. Campaign 2008 - May, 2008

THE HOUSE

Thanks to the blunders of the Republican leadership, three House seats in a row have been lost in special elections. All three seats were in solid Republican districts that should have been easy victories. The latest seat lost was that of my good friend Roger Wicker (R-MS) who was appointed by the Republican governor of Mississippi to fill out the term of a Senate seat vacated by Trent Lott. The first district includes Pontotoc, which was the site of a law suit against prayer by the ACLU. Many times when he was a Congressman, Roger Wicker and I shared the platform at events defending prayer in the Pontotoc schools. Over and over he had won the first district seat with an overwhelming majority of more than 60% of the vote. In the last presidential election George W. Bush received 62% of the vote in this conservative congressional district.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) spent $1.3 million in the first district for Greg Davis, who only received 46% of the vote. The winner, like other Democrats running in rural social conservative areas, championed the same issues as Republicans, claiming to be pro-life, pro-family and pro-second amendment rights. With a Republican president who has an approval under 30%, a war that is not very popular, and a looming recession, the majority vote is going to the Democrat in races where both candidates claim to be social conservatives. In addition, the Republican Party nationally just cannot seem to come up with any agenda other than to point at the Democrat candidates and scream “liberal.” The Republican agenda is in chaos, or maybe non-existent, and that does not bode well for the November elections.

The first special election loss was in Illinois, where former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert’s seat was lost to a fairly liberal Democrat. In that race the Republicans ran a “moderate” who was not supported by GING-PAC or other social conservatives organizations. (See our March, 2008 update.)

The second loss was in Louisiana, where GING-PAC supported Woody Jenkins. Woody lost in the third and final runoff election for the seat vacated by Republican Congressman Richard Baker. Jenkins was brought down by a well organized ground campaign and lots of Democrat spending. All three of the Democrats who won will have to face reelection in November, but will do so with lots of money and backing. Big business is abandoning the Republican Party and giving big bucks to the Democrats to try to buy peace with them. As of now the House Democratic Campaign Committee has $44 million on hand compared to just $8 million for the NRCC. There are 26 Republican congressmen who have already announced they will not run for reelection in November, making the outlook for the Republicans even more grim.

GING-PAC has had more success than the Republican Party. Of the three special elections we were involved in, we won two out of the three!

In the Virginia special election for the Jo Ann Davis seat, we helped to elect Rob Wittman who is an outstanding conservative and who is doing a great job in Congress for us. In Ohio we supported Bob Latta, also a social conservative who won. Our only special election loss to date was Woody Jenkins in Louisiana.

THE PRESIDENCY

Senator Hillary Clinton is trying to make a come-back despite the fact that the liberal media have declared that their candidate, Barack Obama, has won the primary race for the Democrat nominee for president. She received two-thirds of the vote in West Virginia and about the time you receive this Campaign Update she will have won in Kentucky as well.

The most interesting fact that came out of the exit polls in West Virginia is that 51% of those who voted for Hillary Clinton in the Democrat primary said they would vote for Republican John McCain in November if Barack Obama was the Democrat nominee. This should toss up all sorts of red flags for the Democrat “super delegates” who will actually pick either Clinton or Obama. Other than in Iowa, Senator Obama has only won elections where there are large black population centers. (I am not speaking of caucus states). He is popular with rich radical white elitists and blacks and not with many other groups. Working and middle class Democrats are not voting for him.

Obama has another “Rev. Wright” problem that has not been publicly addressed. The man he described as his “mentor” in his book, Dreams From My Father, was an active member of the Communist Party while it was controlled from Moscow during the Cold War. His mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a poet who titled one of his poems, “Christ is a Dixie Nigger” which declares:

“Remember this, you wise guys

Your tales about Jesus of Nazareth

Are no-go with me

I’ve got a dozen Christs in Dixie

All bloody and black ....”

(NOTE TO CENSORS: This is a poem written by an African-American poet and is not a racial remark made to offend anyone.)

This from the man that Obama says read poetry to him as a young boy, and who was his teacher and mentor. This Communist teaching to Obama as a boy may explain the Global Poverty Bill he has introduced in the Senate. The bill is just straight out of the philosophy of Karl Marx. It calls for a percentage of America’s Gross National Product (GNP) to be sent to “poor nations.” The bill does not take into consideration any domestic conditions, disasters or war. It simply takes a percentage of the economic output of Americans each year and gives it away.

ROBERT NOVAK’S WARPED VIEW OF EVANGELICALS

In his May 12, 2008 column in the Chicago Sun Times, aging political columnist Robert Novak once again attacked evangelicals. This time he accused former Huckabee supporters of wanting a Barack Obama victory in November to “punish America” for not electing Huckabee. His claims, which have gone past ridiculous and now border on the bizarre, specifically mention my good friend Mike Farris, who is the head of the Home School Legal Defense Association.

At the urging of Governor Huckabee most of his strongest evangelical supporters, including myself, have offered to assist the McCain campaign. None of us want Barack Obama with his Communist “mentor” as our next president.

GING-PAC, which supported Mike Huckabee, has already contributed funds to the McCain campaign. I have personally recruited donors for McCain at high dollar events, and the evangelical leaders that were behind Huckabee have indeed offered to work for the McCain campaign. Unfortunately, the McCain campaign is disorganized, under-funded and suspicious of all offers of help from the Huckabee camp. The McCain problem is not evangelicals such as Mike Farris and me; the problem is Nixon era Republicans such as Robert Novak, who fear anyone who goes to church weekly. Novak is creating a situation inside the McCain camp that will only hurt the candidate in the November election. Do I love all that McCain stands for? No! But I would rather have him than a Frank Marshall Davis protégé.

McCain Makes His Pitch to Conservatives

(March 7, 2008 – New Orleans, LA) Shortly after obtaining enough delegates to claim the 2008 Republican nomination for the presidency, John McCain spoke at the luncheon for a premier conservative group, the Council on National Policy (CNP). He had about 40 minutes to win over both economic and social conservatives who had huge differences with him on policy, as defined by his voting record in the Senate and public pronouncements. Among these is his willingness to interfere with freedom of speech (McCain-Feingold) and also to give amnesty to millions of illegals in the United States. McCain decided to show he could take on the critics by speaking for only ten minutes and opening the balance of his time to questions. This was a mistake on his part. While he departed the stage thinking he did well, those in attendance including myself felt otherwise. On immigration he said he wanted to secure the border, but that is not what his voting record indicates is his true policy. On issues from abortion to basic economic policy he told those present to look at his record, which, unfortunately for him, they have done.

Then he was asked about his relationship with God. The question was asked in such a manner that it would have allowed a man of faith to preach a message that would have won any atheist in the crowd to Christ. Instead of answering with a personal message of faith, he actually gave the faith testimony of another man. While McCain himself surely thought the answer was a knockout punch for the crowd, it actually left those of faith wondering exactly what his point was.

Rather than talking of his own faith he told of a time while he was a prisoner in North Viet Nam, when a guard loosened the ropes that bound him during the guard’s shift. The guard then retied the bonds before departing. He said he wondered why the guard had shown him kindness. At Christmas time that year the guard silently drew a cross in the dirt in front of McCain’s cell, smiled and then erased the cross so that other guards would not see it. The message ended at that point, with no statement as to how this affected him personally or in his relationship with the Lord. This left the listeners, all with a sort of “and then” look on their faces, waiting for a conclusion that just never came. The McCain campaign had actually made a Christmas commercial using the same theme in December of 2007.

Other than a few conservative Jews, the CNP membership is for the most part evangelicals and conservative Catholics who are also economic conservatives. In other words, the group is overwhelmingly made up of men and women of faith. Some members of CNP such as myself, are the leaders of social conservative organizations. In conversations after the event most agreed that is was impossible to tell from John McCain’s remarks if he indeed had a personal relationship with the Lord. Of course, that does not mean that he does not. It does mean that he has great difficulty in publically acknowledging a relationship with the Lord.

During his remarks John McCain talked about a time when he was campaigning with George W. Bush in 2000, when they were on a bus together and people lined the streets in the rain jumping up and down with enthusiasm. He said, “We have to restore that kind of enthusiasm in our party.” The problem is that he said nothing during the luncheon speech that would generate that kind of enthusiasm amongst conservatives. His presentation consisted of the same canned remarks he made in 2000 that lost him the nomination to George W. Bush. His rhetoric about eliminating earmarks while lowering taxes and keeping America strong is the solid 1980’s and 1990’s rhetoric that kept the GOP in power. Unfortunately for John McCain, it is no longer the 20^th century and there are new problems facing this nation, such as the transfer of wealth to Islamic nation that has left the dollar at about 60% of the value of the Euro. Debt has become a burdensome part of the federal budget as it has for the average American. Oil was at $106 a barrel the day McCain spoke to the group and he did not mention it as an addressable problem.

His address to the CNP offered no assurances to social conservatives that would cause them to give his campaign the same enthusiastic support as evangelicals gave Mike Huckabee; and I put myself forth as an example. I personally raised about $70,000 for Mike Huckabee’s campaign. The political action committee I head also made independent expenditures for advertising and direct marketing of over $60,000 on behalf of Mike Huckabee during the primary. I flew to New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida to help the Huckabee campaigns in those states. I flew to Texas the day I knew Mike would be forced to drop out of the race to stand by his side as did many of his closest supporters. No one dumped Mike Huckabee, not even at the bitter end. None of that kind of support has translated to John McCain and probably will not. After the Huckabee withdrawal, Evangelicals, mad at their leaders for supporting Mormon Mitt Romney and marginal Catholic Rudy Giuliani, packed up their bags and went home rather than to the McCain tent.

Can McCain win the activists back and get evangelicals to jump up and down in the rain for him? That is possible, but it will take more than “… look at my record” and “… he drew a cross in the dirt” to convince social conservatives to do more than hold their nose and vote for him in November, knowing Clinton and Obama are worse alternatives. Rather than being enthusiastic for McCain, most activists see him as the lesser of two evils to choose from in November.

THE PRESIDENCY AND CONGRESS

MIKE HUCKABEE KEEPS ON GOING

TWO INCUMBENTS LOST IN MARYLAND

All of the pundits proclaim that Mike Huckabee does not have a chance and that he cannot “win” enough delegates to beat Senator John McCain. They point out that Mike has to get 120% of the remaining delegates to “win.” But there are two sides to every coin. While he may need 120% of the remaining delegates to win, he only needs 60% to stop McCain from winning. Everyone forgets that Mitt Romney and others have delegates as well, not just McCain and Huckabee.

Mike Huckabee has won more actual primary elections than any Republican other than John McCain. Mitt Romney did win more caucus states where he could use his vast wealth to bus in delegates, but that is why he dropped out of the race. Romney won only two actual primaries and he had an overall favorable rating of -24. (Yes, that is minus 24 points.) Most voters viewed him as contrived and phony. But, Mitt Romney spent over $100 million dollars sapping votes from Mike Huckabee. The real conservative, the real 21st century thinker is Mike Huckabee and that is why he outlasted the other candidates.

On Super Tuesday night I was at Mike Huckabee’s headquarters at the Clear Channel Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. When the first numbers came in from Georgia cheers went up from the crowd that had gathered. As time went by it became apparent that Mike Huckabee was going to win every state that he had the funds to campaign in. Even in states he was unable to visit he was receiving double digit support and claiming second place in others.

At about nine o’clock, individuals close to the campaign including myself were escorted onto the stage in preparation for a statement by Gov. Huckabee. When he came onto the stage the crowd went wild shouting “Mike is back, Mike is back.” It took some time before Mike Huckabee was able to settle down those gathered and make his statement.

In typical Huckabee fashion he said, “The media said it is a two man race and it is; they just got the wrong two men.” With that the crowd once again began to chant. In his usual manner Mike Huckabee was gracious not only to his opponents but to all those who had continued to believe in him even when the pundits and press had declared his campaign dead.

In my home state of Virginia, Mike Huckabee was 30 points behind one week before our primary and yet almost won, carrying more than half of all counties. In just three days of campaigning he closed the gap by 25 points. When people have the chance to hear Mike Huckabee, they wind up voting for him.

THE HOUSE

In the middle of the presidential primary people forget that there are other candidates on the ballot. In Maryland there were both Democrat and Republican primaries for Congress as well. And two incumbents lost their seats. Both were defeated because they had run afoul of the party’s activist base.

Reps. Wayne Gilchrest (R-MD) and Albert Wynn (D-MD) are from different parties. Neither had been involved in a scandal, and there had not been recent redistricting. Both lost because they were not ideologically in sync with their party’s base.

Congressman Gilchrest, the Republican, voted with Democrats more often than with his own party, and his constituents had enough. Groups such as the Club for Growth spent nearly $1 million to dump him. He did not vote with social conservatives and I am glad to see him go. Wynn, the Democrat, had the opposite problem, having sided with business more often than with his left-wing constituency. More goes on than just the presidential race, and GING-PAC will be involved

One of the upcoming races that is important to us is in Louisiana. Although the presidential primary is over, a special “snap” election is being held on March 8th to fill the seat of Congressman Bobby Jindal (R-LA) who was just sworn in as the Republican governor. The March 8th race is a party primary with a run-off on April 5th if no candidate gets more than 50%, and then there will be a final election between the Democrat and the Republican on May 3rd. All this, and the winner will have to run again in November!

Our candidate in the race is my old friend, former state legislator Woody Jenkins. Woody was cheated out of a US Senate seat by current Senator Mary Landrieu in an election in which van loads of Democrats went from polling place to polling place to vote over and over again using the names of the dead. The election was shamefully dishonest.

As a legislator Woody Jenkins authored more than 300 major bills including one to protect home schoolers and deregulate state control of private schools. He is a pro-life champion!

There are now 29 Republican congressmen who have either outright resigned or announced that they will not run for reelection this year. (This includes Bobby Jindal who resigned to become governor of Louisiana.) With that many incumbent Republicans leaving, we need as many good conservatives as we can find to fill the slots. Woody Jenkins will not be a McCain Republican; he is solidly one of us, a true social conservative who will fight for the Christian values this nation was founded on.

Slowly but surely, we are replacing “moderate” Republicans in Congress who do not vote with social conservatives and we are replacing them with men like Woody Jenkins. In December GING-PAC won two major victories in special congressional elections by helping to elect Rob Wittman in Virginia and Bob Latta in Ohio. Huckabee in New Hampshire

New Hampshire is an exciting place in the few days before the first presidential primary. The Sunday before the primary the New Hampshire Republican Party holds its “First in the Nation” presidential brunch at the Hampshire Hills athletic club in Milford. This sprawling athletic center has a gym that seats almost 1,000 and it was set up for 650 to 700 guests who waiting on presidential candidates and their surrogates.

My wife Nancy and I were the “First in the Nation” brunch representing the oldest social conservative political action committee in the nation, Government Is Not God. GING-PAC supports only pro-life social conservative candidates for federal office. This year GING-PAC was a sponsor of the brunch as was one of our arc enemies within the Republican Party, the Log Cabin Republicans. Their tables were pretty easy to spot as there were no women, but the men wore well coordinated wardrobes right of GQ Magazine. Oddly the organizers of the event place are table directly between the speaker’s podium and the Log Cabin table. The media, unable to escape the irony, took numerous photos of our table with the Log Cabin table in the foreground.

The event in this conservative state was upbeat and billed as a salute to Senator John Sununu, who is up for re-election this fall. The morning was upbeat right up to the point that Republican turned Libertarian, turned Republican again presidential candidate Ron Paul took the stage to beat up on America. Only Ron Paul and Duncan Hunter spoke while other presidential candidate sent representatives while they were conducting individual rallies for their respective campaigns.

Before the brunch began GING-PAC volunteers placed flyers in every chair announcing an endorsement of Gov. Mike Huckabee and denouncing the lies being told about his record as governor of Arkansas. GING-PAC also announced the endorsement of Gov. Huckabee at the event in a half page advertisement in the event program that was given to everyone in attendance. The activities of GING-PAC were completely independent of the Huckabee campaign as is required by law.

Early on Monday morning, the day before the primary Nancy and I were on the campaign trail with Mike Huckabee, not representing GING-PAC, but as individuals. We arrived at the Pakrer’s Maple Barn in Mason, NH a half hour early and managed to get the very last parking space in the overflow lot. The restaurant sat 200 people and more than 400 showed up. Rather than a two hour event the Huckabee team announced that the time would be split up for two seating’s and that the governor would speak twice. What a site! There were lots of young men and women many with babies in their arms. A couple of priests showed up and I am pretty sure they were not there to meet Mike Huckabee’s special guest, Chuck Norris.

Gov. Huckabee spoke a message to the people that received thunderous applause and the enthusiasm for him was just incredible. He promised a surprise on election night and from the size of the crowds he is getting and their enthusiasm one has to believe it. Some FOX News and other media outlets have reported that Mike Huckabee had dropped his pro-life, pro-family message. That simply is not true. Washington insiders have said Huckabee can’t do well in New Hampshire because it is too secular. They just don’t know or understand the people of the Granit state who have been overwhelming supportive of him. The momentum is on Huckabee’s side.

Although this venue was very crowded and Mike’s schedule hectic, I decided to try to briefly talk with him between the first and second events. His New Hampshire campaign managers, who I know, ask me to wait for him at an area set aside for the press. I was flat stunned by the number of the press corps that he had one over. One reporter who had covered him on a hunting trip went into great detail to tell me what a great shot Mike was. Another reporter was busy telling a new man on the beat what a great guy Mike was and how easy he was to talk to. In my fifteen minutes there waiting for Mike to finish up a TV interview I did not hear a single negative word from the press.

More than twenty years ago I spoke at a church in Arkansas. The young preacher there told me he was leaving the ministry for politics fight for the rights of the unborn. He looked me square in the eyes and told me that is what he believed God wanted him to do. I thought he was nuts and was very sure that a Baptist preacher just could not get elected to anything. Some years later I spoke at a Lincoln Day breakfast in Arkansas. I was the key note speaker and the guest of honor was First Lady Janet Huckabee.

As Mike walked out the door from his interview his face lit up and he said, “Bill” and through his arms around me. “Brother, Am I glad to see you up here, we need all the help we can get.” I told him I was doing what I could independently and we talked briefly about South Carolina. I didn’t try to detain him on his busy schedule and he thanked me and then that big broad smile turned to a five month old that he took into his arms. As his wife Janet followed him she leaned over to me and said, “Nice half page ad.”

What is the Huckabee magic? They are ordinary American folks from ordinary homes who understand ordinary Americans just like me. Like so many others I work 50 and 60 hour weeks to do what I believe in and to support my family. I work hard to pay a greater share of my income in taxes than Bill Gates. It goes beyond faith and beyond the abortion issue. Mike Huckabee will change the tax code so productivity is not taxed and spend our money so that the roads are fixed instead of tax dollars going to corporate welfare. Mike understands America, not from the Bush and Clinton Ivy League level, but from the blood, sweat and tears level. American needs Mike.

After the now famous (or infamous if you are a liberal) Christmas TV ad by Gov Mike Huckabee several other contenders for the White House including Hillary Clinton released their versions as well. Below are some of the most interesting. Note that Hillary Clinton is the only one promising to hand out gifts. Although John McCain featured a cross in his TV ad the liberal media has not mentioned it while beating up on Mike Huckabee for having a bookcase behind him "shaped" as a cross.

Campaign Update 2008 – December, 2007 Edition

OUR CANDIDATES WIN TWO HOUSE SEATS WITTMAN WINS IN VIRGINIA, LATTA WINS IN OHIO

In the November Campaign Update I told you that I had attended receptions for Bob Latta (R-OH) and Rob Wittman (R-VA) here in Washington, DC and had personally handed both men checks to help with their campaigns. In both races special elections were set for December 11th of this year.

Both of these elections were important and we won both of them. These were not just Republican victories, these were victories for the social conservative movement. Both Bob Latta and Rob Wittman are solid pro-life social conservatives.

VIRGINIA

Rob Wittman a longtime officeholder in eastern Virginia, but a brand new first term member House of Delegates, had 61 percent to defeat Democrat Philip Forgit, an Iraq war veteran and former teacher who took 37 percent. Independent Lucky Narain, a member of the Army Reserves, took just 2 percent. Wittman managed to receive a greater percentage of the vote in Virginia’s 1st congressional district than did President George W. Bush in the last election.

Rob Wittman puts Jesus Christ first in his life and is not ashamed to tell people that. As for his pro-life stance he has publicly stated numerous times that he believes life begins at fertilization. He is a Boy Scout leader and has headed a men’s Christian organization where he lives. A graduate of Virginia Tech, he also holds a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and is an expert on the Chesapeake Bay. He will be a great asset to the conservative cause. I live in Rob Wittman’s district. He replaces a dear friend of mine, JoAnn Davis, who died after a two year battle with breast cancer this year. We will all miss JoAnn in Washington.

OHIO

The Democrats thought they were on a roll and actually believed they could win Ohio’s 5th district after the death of Congressman Paul Gillmor. They did not count on strong pro-life candidate Bob Latta who was a member of the Ohio legislature. (See other side for more)

Bob’s father, Del Latta, had held this 5th district seat for 30 years until 1988. After he stepped down Gillmor was elected for three terms before he died in a tragic fall in his home in Arlington, Virginia this year. Bob Latta received 57% of the vote running against Democrat Robin Weirauch. This was her third try at the seat. She had been beaten twice by Paul Gillmor. Although I had never worked with Del Latta, it is my understanding from those who did that his son Bob leans much more to the social conservative cause. Like Wittman in Virginia, Latta believes that life begins at fertilization.

DOES IT MATTER?

Do these two off year victories matter that much? YES! The Democrats poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into the Ohio race trying to elect another pro-abortion candidate to help radical San Francisco liberal Nancy Pelosi redirect America to the far left. The radical Democrats financed by billionaires like George Soros believed the American people want a socialist America. Perhaps they should have read some polls. The Gallup organization’s recent poll found that only 20% approve of the job Nancy Pelosi’s Democrat Congress is doing. Why would the people want to add more Democrats? From the votes in Ohio and Virginia it is obvious that they don’t.

THE RESULTS

Just this week I attended an event put on by the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List here in Washington. That organization specializes in helping elect pro-life women. Just 20 years ago there was just one pro-life woman in Congress, now there are 13. (There were 14 before JoAnn Davis died this year.) Attending that event were many congressmen that GING-PAC helped to elect.

Over the past few months I have been pessimistic about the chances of the Republicans taking back the House in the next election. I am beginning to change my mind. Despite the unpopular war in Iraq, the people are beginning to see what they got out of handing control of the House and Senate over to the radical left. The favorability numbers just keep going down for the Democrat Congress and many of their newly elected Members are already in trouble back in their home districts. We have an opportunity next November to elect pro-life, social conservative candidates to as many as 20 seats held by Democrats.

PRESIDENTIAL RACE

HUCK AND HILLARY

In an earlier update I said that if everyone who said, “I’d vote for Huckabee if I thought he could win,” would actually vote for Huckabee, he would win. Suddenly all those folks started to talk to each other and realized that was true. Huckabee is now number one in Iowa, South Carolina and several other states, and he is closing in nationally on Rudy Giuliani. One poll has him in a statistical tie for first place.

Why is Mike Huckabee’s message resonating? He didn’t have any money, his campaign was run on a shoe string budget, and he didn’t have any consultants to tell him what to say. Huckabee just answers the questions that are asked the best be can based on what he believes, and the people seem to like that.

Meanwhile Hillary Clinton is sinking in the polls. The more voters get to know her the less they like her. There is a chance she may not win in Iowa or New Hampshire. Barack Obama has Oprah on his side, but that is not going to win him the nomination. He has no executive experience and is a first term Senator. I am beginning to think there will be a dark horse getting the Democrat nomination, perhaps someone who is not even running yet.

HELP ELECT SOCIAL CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES

Conservative political action committees such as Government Is Not God need to have a major war chest available for the elections in 2008. We cannot participate and help elect godly social conservative candidates without funds. As of today our PAC has less than $20,000 on hand and we need at least ten times that to be able to affect the outcome of House elections next year. The first 2008 primary is just one month away!

If we are going to have an impact and put real conservatives in the House and Senate, men and women such as yourself must get involved.

Campaign Update 2008 - November, 2007 Edition

REALLY STRANGE PRESIDENTIAL ENDORSEMENTS

Rev. Pat Robertson has endorsed pro-abortion, pro-gay presidential candidate Mayor Giuliani. Mayor Giuliani stands at the opposite end of everything Pat Robertson has claimed to work for all of his life. This strange endorsement has caused immediate problems inside the Christian Right. Randal Terry of Operation Rescue said, "I am literally sick to my stomach over Dr. Robertson's decision.” Reverend Wiley Drake, a former Second Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention, called upon his church and all Christians to boycott CBN and the 700 Club as a result of Robertson’s endorsement of Giuliani.

The next strangest development after Robertson’s backing of Giuliani is the National Right to Life Committee’s endorsement of Fred Thompson. As a politician, Fred Thompson never received a 100% rating from the National Right to Life Committee. On the other hand presidential candidates Rep. Duncan Hunter, Rep. Tom Tancredo, Senator Sam Brownback and Governor Mike Huckabee all have had 100% pro-life ratings. I believe the highest Senator Thompson ever achieved was 88% and it was far lower at times. Just prior to the National Right to Life Committee’s endorsement, conservative columnist Robert Novak had this to say about Senator Thompson:

“Former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) may have seriously wounded himself with his handling of the abortion issue on Sunday's "Meet the Press." Thompson unequivocally stated he opposed a Human Life Amendment to the Constitution, which is a plank in the Republican platform. Without prompting, he then attacked the idea of "criminalizing" abortion and locking up mothers who procure abortions -- images that are used as scare tactics by the pro-choice lobby. Throughout the long discussion of the topic, Thompson was incoherent at best and thoroughly objectionable to his party's pro-life base at worst. He backed away from his firm opposition to the platform, but he never quite set himself right on the whole issue.” (Nov. 07,2007)

Another pro-life leader, Paul Weyrich of the Free Congress Foundation then endorsed former liberal (now conservative) Governor Mitt Romney. When running for Governor of Massachusetts, Romney campaigned as “pro-choice,” pro-gay rights and anti-gun. In office he continued to promote the “pro-choice” and pro-gay agendas. Now running for President, he says he has had a change of heart and that he is anti-abortion and against gay-marriage. Another of Romney’s supporters is Rev. Lou Sheldon of the Traditional Values Coalition which fights against homosexual marriage. In the past Lou Sheldon has been critical of governors such as Romney who seemed to have pro-gay agendas.

THE QUESTION

Why is the social conservative movement in the United States committing suicide? The answer is power politics. Evangelical conservative leaders are backing candidates they think will win rather than those who have been consistent social conservatives with 100% pro-life records. Many other endorsements I will not mention here have surprised me, but all seem to have one theme: “We need someone who can beat Hillary.” The assumption is that the GOP must choose a “centrist” presidential candidate or Hillary will win. The logic goes, “We need a New York liberal to beat their New York liberal.” By that logic Ronald Reagan would not have gotten the GOP presidential nomination. Reagan was too conservative to be electable by the National Right to Life Committee standards and those of many other social conservative leaders today.

Meanwhile the rank and file members of social conservative organizations are being turned off by their leadership. While National Right to Life has endorsed Fred Thompson, his numbers continue to fall in Iowa and New Hampshire while those of Governor Mike Huckabee continue to rise. Huckabee is now in a solid 2nd place in Iowa behind Governor Mitt Romney who has spent $21 million in that state alone. Huckabee has spent just $500,000 there and he has such momentum that he may well take first place on election day. Thompson is in fourth place in Iowa and fifth place in New Hampshire where Huckabee recently passed him. The national polls don’t matter at all because most of those folks will actually never vote in a primary.

THE RESULT

Regardless of who wins the GOP nomination the social conservative movement, and particularly evangelical leaders, lose. In an attempt to gain influence by backing pro-abortion and pro-gay candidates, evangelical leaders are losing their credibility. Had these leaders backed 100% pro-life social conservatives such as Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, Sam Brownback or Tom Tancredo, their integrity would have remained intact and their word trusted when it counts next year. Unfortunately the desire of some evangelical leaders to walk with the seemingly powerful rather than with the righteous will discourage their base. In my opinion this loss of credibility of “religious right” leaders will actually boost the odds of a Hillery victory.

SPECIAL ELECTIONS

This week I attended receptions for Bob Latta (R-OH) and Rob Wittman (R-VA) who are running for vacant seats in the House. Rob Wittman received the GOP nod at a state convention for a special election on December 11th to fill the seat vacated by the death of my good friend, Jo Ann Davis. On that same date Mr. Latta faces Democrat Robin Weirauch. A member of the Ohio House of Representatives, Latta has a 100% voting record with Ohio Right to Life and an A+ rating with the NRA. In the Virginia race Rob Wittman is new to politics but has voted 100% pro-life in the House of Delegates so far. It is VERY important that these two men win in December. We cannot afford even one more House member who votes under the MoveOn.org banner of far left politics.

I have personally handed both Bob Latta and Rob Wittman checks for $500.00 each. If we can raise further funds this month GING-PAC is allowed by law to give each of these candidates another $4,500. Please send your contribution to help these men today!
