January - February Update

In 2006, the year the Republicans lost control of the House, I spotted a candidate in Ohio whom I believed would be a real leader, a man I viewed as a social conservative we could count on. That year GING PAC supported  Jim Jordan in his first run for Congress. He won and took office in 2007 just as Nancy Pelosi was sworn in as Speaker. Over the last four years Jordan has shown his leadership and when Republicans took back control of the House, he was elected as the new head of the powerful Republican Study Committee.

A sizeable majority of House Republicans in the new 112th Congress, 175 out of 242, belong to the Republican Study Committee.  The RSC is the conservative caucus, and any House member who is serious about conservative values belongs to it and participates in the formation of policy and legislative agendas.  Its rivals in the House are the Congressional Progressive Caucus, composed of about 74 Democrats who have a socialist agenda, and the perhaps even more radical Congressional Black Caucus, many of whose members also belong to the Progressive Caucus.

Jordan is known as a real fiscal hawk, but he is also outspoken about social issues.  He made a statement about the annual March for Life on the front page of his website, and also spoke at a Sanctity of Life event back in his home state of Ohio.  Jim Jordan released a statement explaining why he will not be attending this year’s Conservative Political Action Convention (CPAC), which he said was due to the inclusion of the pro gay group called GO PROUD.  Said the Congressman, “Family is the cornerstone upon which a community, state, or nation is built, and conservatives must lead the way in promoting the strengths of the traditional family whenever we can.”

Eric Cantor and William J MurrayERIC CANTOR – The new Majority Leader, Eric Cantor is another candidate GING PAC has supported since the first time he ran for Congress. He ranks second in command after Speaker Boehner. Having a true social conservative in this position of leadership will be invaluable in helping to schedule votes on the floor.  I am confident that Congressman Cantor will work closely with Speaker Boehner to schedule votes on some social conservative issues that Nancy Pelosi never would have allowed to come to the floor.

On January 16, the anniversary of Roe v Wade, Cantor issued this statement:  “For the past two years, the life community has suffered the consequences of being completely out of power.  Against the will of our people, Democrats have jammed through an agenda that forces taxpayers to fund abortion and embryonic stem cell research, and even attempted to repeal conscience protections for health care providers.” The Majority Leader went on to say that, “We know that we have an uphill battle in the Senate and the White House.  But I can promise you one thing: the People’s House will stand for life, and we will do everything in our power to make sure our values are reflected in the law of the land.”

MICHELE BACHMAN - GING PAC supported Michele Bachman in her first bid for Congress, and in two election cycles since then.  Michele is using the grassroots passion for changing our big, wasteful, overbearing  government to push for real reforms.  Liberal Democrats in Washington must think she’s everywhere they look at the beginning of this new year, not just on the floor of Congress but out in the street speaking to March for Life participants.  And, right after Obama was supposed to have transformed himself into another Ronald Reagan with his State of the Union message, there she was on CNN with her rebuttal speech, hammering away at every misguided, big spending proposal that Obama and the Democrats have come up with.

RANDY FORBES - GING PAC supported Randy Forbes in his first Congressional race in 2000.  Now, he is the founder and head of the Congressional Prayer Caucus and one of the staunchest defenders of religious liberty as our founders envisioned it. When President Barack Obama incorrectly stated several times that the national motto was E Pluribus Unum, it was Congressman Forbes who authored a letter to the President signed by members of the Prayer Caucus, asking him to correct his error. He also introduced a congressional resolution reaffirming “In God We Trust” as the national motto.

It is to be hoped that the new members of Congress whom we supported will prove to show similar courage and leadership.

ANN MARIE BUERKLE -   New Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle is both a nurse and a lawyer, and has valuable experience in the medical insurance field also.  She is a strong opponent of Obamacare, and has commonsense ideas to fix some problems with our nation’s health care system.  She has already joined the Republican Study Committee, and Ann Marie has also just been appointed to Chair the Subcommittee on Health in the Veterans’ Affairs Committee.  Her subcommittee is charged with oversight of the Veterans’ Health Administration.  In the last issue of the Update I wrote about other members we supported such as
CONGRESSMAN ALLEN WEST,  who is now taking on an activist roll in Congress. He was one of the first new members to welcome representitives of Iraqi Christian refugees into his office.

MARCO RUBIO -  On the Senate side, Marco Rubio of Florida was in the Senate only a matter of days before turning his attention to foreign affairs, an area that has been neglected by the Obama Administration. Our influence in Central and South America and the Caribbean has diminished, with the result that Venezuela and China are taking advantage of our inattention.  Rubio has already welcomed to his office and met with General Douglas Fraser, Commander of the U.S. Southern Command.  They discussed the new governments in Brazil and Colombia, and Venezuelan influence in South America.

Senator Rubio, whose parents are from Cuba, very frankly stated his opposition to the recent Obama Administration announcement that our government will ease regulations regarding travel and remittances to Cuba.

THE 2012 CYCLE
The good news is that Speaker John Boehner was sitting behind the president for the State of the Union address on January 26th. That bad news is that Vice President Biden sat next to him, and that the address was being delivered by Barack Obama. The nation needs to unload itself of debt and restore its Judeo-Christian values -- and those two things will not happen so long as there is a big-spending, pro-abortion president in the White House.

The spending is so out of control that 40 cents of every dollar the federal government spends is borrowed. The government owes so much that the Federal Reserve must keep interest rates at zero to allow the borrowing to continue. Our nation simply can’t afford the welfare state that has been built and it cannot continue to pay government employed janitors four times the rate paid in the private sector. We need rational leaders on both the fiscal and social fronts.

America simply can’t afford Barack Obama! In the 2012 election cycle GING-PAC can make a difference. GING-PAC can legally spend an unlimited amount of money to tell the truth about Barack Obama and his allies during the next election … BUT … We can’t spend money we don’t have.  We need your help!  If we are going to have a GOP nominee for the presidency who is a strong pro-life social conservative, we need to have cash on hand. In just three months the first pre-primary presidential debate is scheduled. We are already in the election cycle and we need funds to make a difference. Please help!

February, 2010 Campaign Update

JOHN MCCAIN IN 2010 AND 2012

REALLY BAD NEWS:
Senator John McCain has every intention of a rematch with Barack Obama in 2012. He has kept his presidential committee intact and when asked about Gov. Sarah Palin running in 2012 he said, “I’m not dead yet.” Nothing could be worse for the conservative cause and the Republican Party in 2012 than to have Senator John McCain at the top of the ticket again. The Senator will be 74 years old this year and 76 when he runs in 2012. The oldest man ever elected to the presidency was Ronald Reagan; he was 70 years old the day we was sworn in as the 41st president of the United States. Am I saying McCain is too old to be president? No, but I do remember Senator Bob Dole running for president in his seventies against a vigorous, younger Bill Clinton. In 1996 just about anyone could have beat Bill Clinton -- except Bob Dole. I believe the error is about to be repeated with an aging Senator running against a vigorous young president. I believe just about any Republican can beat Barack Obama in 2012 -- except John McCain.

That brings us back to 2010 and the Senate race in Arizona. My good friend Congressman J.D. Hayworth has decided to run against John McCain in the Republican Primary. The race shows what kind of man John McCain really is. Before Hayworth even made the decision to run, John McCain began running hateful negative ads against him. He demanded that the radio station that employed Hayworth as a commentator should fire him. He complained to the FEC about Hayworth having a radio show even though he (Hayworth) was not an announced candidate.

I have seen the vindictiveness of John McCain before. I have watched him turn red-faced and explode on the subway that runs under the Capitol between the various office building. McCain has a vicious temper which has not been tempered with age. On the other hand in his announcement for his run for the Senate, J. D. Hayworth said that John McCain had served the nation with honor, but that it was time for him to go.

THE TALE OF THE TAPE: J. D. Hayworth is far more conservative than John McCain in every area, including social issues. The American Conservative Union shows Hayworth in the top 4% of elected officials, but McCain only in the top 32%. That is a huge difference. Then there is this: McCain sponsored the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Act. The law prohibited conservative non-profit groups from campaigning but allowed Barack Obama to raise three quarters of a billion dollars for his presidential campaign. Much of that law has now been found unconstitutional. McCain sponsored the McCain-Lieberman Climate Stewardship Act, which would have capped CO2 emissions at the 2000 level. He also sponsored the McCain-Kennedy comprehensive immigration bill in 2005. McCain also voted in favor of the $850-billion TARP bailout one month prior to the 2008 elections, sealing the fate of his presidential campaign.

GING-PAC will back the conservative in this race and that is J. D. Hayworth.

OTHER SENATE ACTION: I had not planned on GING-PAC being involved in many Senate races not only because of the expense, but also because for a while it seemed hopeless for conservatives to take back the Senate in 2010. There are eight Republican seats vacant because of retirements and Senators running for other offices, such as governor. Our favorite Senator, Sam Brownback, is running for governor of Kansas. GING-PAC is supporting Todd Tiahrt to replace Sam Brownback in the Senate. Todd has personally promised me that he will take over the Senate Values Action Team and actively promote social conservative legislation, as Sam Brownback has. Dr. James Dobson, among many others, has endorsed Todd Tiahrt for the Senate.

With eight Republicans leaving, things looked a little bleak, that is until several high ranking Democrats also decided to step down. The latest is Senator Evan Bayh in Indiana. Indiana is a red state that has in the past gone blue for the Bayh family. Both Evan and his dad were governors and Senators in Indiana. Without a Bayh in the race, the seat will probably go to a Republican. GING-PAC does not have a candidate in that race as yet. Bayh’s decision comes after Sen. Chris Dodd, D-CT, and Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-ND, announced their retirements in January. Democrats also have to defend the seats of Barack Obama in Illinois and Joe Biden in Delaware. There are also vulnerable Democrat seats in other states.

In Missouri GING-PAC is supporting Congressman Roy Blunt who stepped out of his leadership roll as House Whip to run for Senate. Roy’s son was a popular governor of Missouri who did not seek reelection, but the Blunt name has a very good reputation in Missouri. Congressman Blunt is very conservative and 100% pro-life.

In my position as chairman of the Religious Freedom Coalition I have worked numerous times on pro-life and other social conservative legislative issues with Congressman Blunt. This is a man who will help social conservatives once he is in the Senate. The most likely match-up in November appears to be pro-life Roy Blunt against pro-abortion Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan.

THE HOUSE

On the House side we have added another candidate to the endorsed list. Tim Walberg was a true activist for social conservative and pro-life issues who lost his Michigan seat last year to a far left leaning liberal who was swept in with Barack Obama. Tim Walberg has a good chance at getting this seat back. A National Research Inc. poll has Walberg leading Schauer 46-37, and 50-40 with "leaners." It appears that voters in the conservative leaning 7th district of Michigan are having buyer’s remorse after watching Mark Schauer vote consistently with Nancy Pelosi in the House.

GING-PAC will also step forward to defend great conservative spokesmen who will be under attack by wealthy far left organizations such as Moveon-org this year. These include Michele Bachmann in Minnesota, Dr. Paul Broun in Georgia, Trent Franks in Arizona and Todd Akin in Missouri. While we want to get more conservative congressmen elected, we have to watch our back and make sure that some of the conservative workhorses we have in the House keep their seats.

OUR NEW INTERNET SITE

Last year Government Is Not God - PAC’s new Internet site went up. The old site was at www.govnotgod.org, and to archive our old material we kept that site. The new site is located at www.gingpac.org and is friendlier to use and has modern features. As we get closer to elections I urge you to check the site for information and the latest candidates we support.

To have impact in these races GING-PAC must have funds. It is crucial that we have at least an additional $50,000 as primaries begin in earnest. Please send a check to help today, or give an online gift at www.gingpac.org.

HOFFMAN MAY HAVE WON IN NY-23

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi swore in Bill Owen, the unofficial "winner" even though the race has not yet been certified. She did this because the unofficial "loser" conceded defeat early because he believed the returns. But as fraudulent votes for the Democrat are being tossed out and absentee ballots from the military are being counted the "win" by Owen is evaporating. The Conservative Party candidate backed by GING-PAC, Doug Hoffman, conceded when he thought he had lost by 5335 votes but he is now trailing by less than 3,000 votes. If the final total puts Hoffman in the lead, some experts believe that Bill Owen would be forced to relinquish his House seat.

"We’ll certify whatever the counties tell us is their numbers, and we’ll communicate that to the clerk of the House," John Conklin, spokesman for the New York State Board of Elections told an upstate newspaper. If Hoffman is certified the ultimate winner by the New York State Board of Elections Speaker Pelosi, being as dishonest as she is, will probably refuse to seat him. After all, she did seat Owen with no certificate from his state. The board of elections will certify the result at its December board meeting.

Nancy Pelosi Acts the Clown

THE PELOSI CLOWN COSTUME? - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is making such a fool of herself that I actually believe that this fall manufacturers will offer a Pelosi clown costume for Halloween. Pelosi, who claims to be a Catholic, wants abortion to be legal even if a woman is in labor and changes her mind about giving birth. She also wants homosexual marriage. Aside from that she wants a "truth commission" to try members of the Bush Administration for "torture." There is just one problem: As a member of the Intelligence Committee, Nancy Pelosi actually knew about and approved of the intelligence gathering techniques of the the CIA. Her "truth commission" would be investigating her role in the "torture." After a press conference on the issue this week, even CNN made fun of her vacillating answers about what she knew, when she knew it and why she said nothing at the time but wants retribution now. What is torturous is watching Pelosi talking fast from both sides of her mouth at the same time.

MORE ON AMERICA'S RELIGIOUS HERITAGE - Congressman Randy Forbes' HR 397, a resolution reaffirming America's Religious heritage has picked up new momentum. Congressman Tom Price, the chairman of the very powerful Republican Study Committee, has signed on as a co-sponsor and he is urging the entire congressional membership of the committee to co-sponsor as well. I urge you to read and distribute the resolution which clearly outlines the true religious heritage of our nation. The Religious Freedom Coalition is an integral part of the movement to pass HR 307. Read more

You must watch Congressman Forbes' impassioned plea for the Judeo-Christian heritage of our nation. The video of Congressman Forbes is just four minutes long. but it is power packed. Watch here

January - February 2009 Campaign Update

WHO IS BILLY JOE AND WHY IS HE A REPUBLICAN?

Billy Joe, his wife and three children live in a double wide in Virginia, and last November he voted for the McCain/Palin ticket. Billy Joe does construction work that has not been easy to find for the last year or so. He has no medical insurance, and his children are covered under a combination state and federal medical program. His family would qualify for food stamps, but he is not willing to apply for them. He did not earn enough in 2008 to pay any income tax and will get a refund equal to a little more than was withheld from his checks for taxes. Just doesn’t sound like he should vote Republican, but he does. He told me he votes Republican because he loves his God, his family and his shotgun, in that order.

I met Billy Joe in the parking lot at the Super Wal-Mart when he asked me where I got the “Palin for President 2012” bumper sticker that was on my Jeep. I told him the PAC I am chairman of made them up and handed him two, which he tried to pay me for. He had no idea what a PAC (Political Action Committee) was. We talked about his kids and he told me how he wanted them to grow up in a country where they wouldn’t be ashamed to talk about the Lord at school and could go hunting it they wanted to. He was afraid the public schools were going to teach his boys that being gay was better than being straight, and he smiled and assured me it wasn’t. Billy Joe is one of the faces of the Republican Party we never see on Capitol Hill; he is the part of the party that would stand in line overnight to get a glimpse of Gov. Sarah Palin.

The day after I met Billy Joe, I attended a meeting with the new chairman of the House Republican Conference, Congressman Mike Pence. At the meeting he talked about how the Republican Party was moving to a stance of “protecting the taxpayer,” and how that was going to move the party back into the majority two years hence. As Congressman Pense went on and on about protecting the taxpayers, I thought about Billy Joe and realized that the good congressman had no idea who the real constituency of the Republican Party was. Most millionaires and billionaires, including Warren Buffet, voted for Barack Obama. It was guys like Billy Joe who elected Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, and they had done it out of principle, not out of greed. A lot of them did not even make enough money to pay income taxes.

As Pence spoke, he didn’t realize he was telling us, “We can buy the votes of the taxpayers by telling them we will help them keep more of their money to buy consumer goods.” This just does not matter to Billy Joe and millions like him who have voted Republican since Ronald Reagan ran in 1980. It was Reagan who convinced them that the Democrat Party had deserted him and them, and adopted the gay Hollywood lifestyle that promoted killing babies in the womb and banning God in the classroom.

I don’t know exactly how many Billy Joe’s there are who voted Republican, but after talking to him I drove through a trailer park and discovered a lot more American flags flying there than in my own neighborhood, and a lot of McCain/Palin bumper stickers still on the tailgates of pickup trucks. I can’t prove this, but my guess is that as many as a full quarter of those who vote GOP do not make enough money to actually pay income taxes. I base this on the fact that 41% of those who file income tax returns have a “zero tax liability.” That means they got back 100% or more of any tax withheld from their paychecks.

Congressman Mike Pence is a good man and a smart man, but he has read too much drivel in Heritage Foundation White Papers. Pence and a few other key Republican figures should stand in front of a Wal-Mart to meet some Republicans who actually work for a living, the kind that care more about their families and God than about buying alligator skin covered trash cans at Rodeo Drive boutique shops. With the knowledge of who their constituency actually is, just maybe they could start to understand how to win elections again.

WE MUST REPLENISH OUR FUNDS

There are going to be run-offs and special elections almost immediately. Just about all of our funds have been exhausted during the hard fought 2008 election cycle. We must prepare now for the upcoming fight to put more social conservatives in the House and Senate. Please send a check or give an online gift at www.gingpac.org .

September, 2008 - Campaign Update

A TRUE DO NOTHING CONGRESS

For the last 18 months the majority of Americans have blamed the Republicans for the mess in Congress. As of August 1st most Americans believed the Republicans were in charge of Congress. But thanks to radical left House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that has changed. When she announced the she and she alone would block a vote on offshore drilling to “save the planet” Americans started to wake up to the fact that Republicans were not in charge regardless of a Republican being in the White House. Just two months ago generic polls showed the Republicans double digits behind Democrats. The latest Gallup Poll shows Republicans 5 points up! What a turn around and it has mostly to do with oil.

Americans are fed up with the Obama - Democrat plan for energy which is NO to drilling, NO to coal mining and NO to nuclear. The liberals promoted “wind power,” but now oppose building power lines from the areas with a lot of wind to the big cities, saying that they are “bad for the environment.” The liberal solution is to raise the tax on energy, so people will use less of it.

Just after Congress returned from their summer break, the day after Labor Day, I had lunch with Congressman Adam Putnam. He is Chairman of the House Republican Conference and third in line in the House Republican leadership. The Conference Chairman is charged with articulating his party's message, and with building the agenda for Republicans in the House. He was elected to lead the Republican Conference by his fellow congressmen. This man knows what is going on.

Congressman Putnam told me that leftist Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi had scheduled just 15 work days for the rest of year. That is 15 total works days between Labor Day and the New Year. By the time you get this Campaign Update half of those will be over! She scheduled so few days despite the fact that most of the government's funding bills, which are already months late, need to be passed. Even bills to fund the military have not been passed. She has finally promised a bill on “offshore drilling” but it is a joke. All drilling within 50 miles of the shore will still be banned. That is where 90% of the oil is and she is aware of that.

The candidates we are supporting are looking better every day to the electorate. Seats the Democrats thought they were sure of winning are moving back to conservatives.

Lt Col Alan West We are now very confident that our candidate in Florida’s 22nd district will become the first black Republican in Congress since J.C. Watts of Oklahoma resigned to go back to private business. Lt. Col. Alan West retired from the military in 2004, and was a civilian advisory to the Afghan Army until 2007. In his Army career, Col. West has been honored many times.

Lt. Col. West received a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals (one with Valor), and a Valorous Unit Award. He received his valor award as a Captain in Desert Shield/Storm.

As with all the candidates GING-PAC supports, I have spent one-on-one time with Lt. Col. West and I can assure you that he is a pro-life social conservative. His school age children attend a Christian school, and he is endorsed by pro-life groups in Florida. GING-PAC has already sent funds to his campaign, but you can help him directly. You can give contributions directly to the West for Congress campaign at: www.allenwestforcongress.com .

Bob Straniere for Congress Further north we have endorsed Bob Straniere who is running for the House in New York's 13th congressional district. I talked at length with him and I asked him directly about his pro-life credentials. He immediately told me he had run for state office on the Pro-Life Party ticket and had the endorsements of just about every pro-life organization and leader in New York. He is also endorsed by my good friend Duane Motley, who heads New York’s Family Research Foundation.

My research shows that Bob Straniere is one of the good guys, a real social conservative leader who we need on Capitol Hill. Straniere is running for the seat of Congressman Vito Fossella who is "retiring." Fossella is yet another Republican figure who was caught up in the scandal days of former Speaker Dennis Hastert. If elected, Bob Straniere will be the only Republican congressman from New York City. This is a must win seat because he would be “the” social conservative from New York City.

Bob Straniere has an extensive background in American government and politics, serving as a member of the New York State Assembly for 24 years representing the south shore of Staten Island. Bob served for 10 years (1995-2004) as the Floor Leader for the Assembly Republican Conference and as the Assistant Minority Leader. GING-PAC has sent funds to his campaign, but you can assist directly at: www.straniereforcongress.com .

Other House candidates we are funding are: Todd Akin of Missouri; Michele Bachmann of Minnesota; Dr. Paul Broun of Georgia; Jim Jordan of Ohio; Bob Latta of Ohio; Melissa Hart of Pennsylvania; Bill Sali of Idaho and Rob Wittman of Virginia. In the last 30 days of the race we will assist others as well.

THE SENATE

Just a few days before mailing this Campaign Update, I met once again with our Senate candidate in Colorado, former Congressman Bob Schaffer who continues to do well in the polls. This race is extremely important because it could help to determine the outcome of the presidential race. Colorado is a key “battle ground” and that is why the Democrats chose Denver for their Greek Temple crowning of Barack Obama as king of all that is far fetched and meaningless.

This Colorado Senate seat has been Republican for some time; however, hundreds of thousands of liberal Democrats have fled the high taxes of California and moved to Colorado. Now they want to make Colorado just like the state they fled. Republican Wayne Allard has retired, making this an open seat. This is a must win. GING-PAC will send additional funds to Bob Schaffer as they become available.

THE PRESIDENCY

As a political action committee, GING-PAC can spend as much money as we can raise to promote the election of the McCain/Palin ticket. Gov. Sarah Palin has changed the character of this election and moved social conservatives back to the Republican ticket. We love the selection of Gov. Palin and will do all we can to assist the ticket.

August, 2008 - Campaign Update

MCCAIN CALLS FOR PRO-LIFE PRESIDENCY- At the forum held at Saddleback Church, best selling Christian author Pastor Rick Warren asked Senator John McCain at what point a baby is entitled to human rights. John McCain answered: "At the moment of conception. I have a 25- year pro-life record in the Congress, in the Senate. And as president of the United States, I will be a pro-life president. And this presidency will have pro-life policies. That's my commitment. That's my commitment to you."

$28,500 TO GLIMPSE "THE ONE" - Last Sunday Barack Obama collected $7.8 million at three fundraisers in San Francisco. At one event for VIPs he charged $28,500 per person to get a glimpse of him. Although I have no proof, I am told by sources that the men's and women's rest room signs at these events were changed to "Person Rest Stations." Read more

PELOSI'S DIVINE REVELATION - According to Nancy Pelosi, God has given her a revelation that He has "blessed" America with Barack Obama . Not only does Pelosi quote Scripture that does not exist, now she has word directly from God that he has chosen Barack Obama to be our leader. She also claims to be a Catholic who is pro-abortion and thinks men who practice anal sex with each other should receive marriage licenses. Read more
